Olympia International Fine Art & Antiques Fair 2012

The 2012 edition of the Olympia International Fine Art & Antiques Fair will take place at the Olympia Exhibition Centre (London),  between the 7th (preview day) and the 17th of June.

Visitors to the fair will have access to authentic fine art and antiques previously vetted by dealers (some exhibiting and some not), museum curators, auction house specialists and restorers split into thirty two committees, who check the authenticity, date and condition of each exhibited item, enabling the visitor to buy with confidence.

Among the many objects being exhibited at the Olympia International Fine Art & Antiques Fair, there will be 19th and 20th century European paintings and drawings, 20th century and Modern Art design, Art Deco & Art Nouveau, Contemporary Art and Design, European ceramics, furniture (20th century, Asian, continental, English formal, oak & country), glass, Impressionist paintings, jewelry, photographs, prints and maps, posters, statuary, sculptures, woodcarvings, objects of Virtu & miniatures, scientific instruments, tribal art,  clocks, and several other objects representative of our art and history.

Counting with over 70 furniture dealers and 18 international dealers, from all over Europe and from as far as Tazmania, the Fair will offer the chance not only to see rare objects of art and antiques, but also to talk directly with experts.
In its events programme, the Fair will also include a series of lectures and panel discussions and tours.

Also making part of the programme is Olympia Contemporary, a showcase of fascinating and exciting works of contemporary and modern art, design and furniture brought by 27 dealers from the UK and abroad.

Some interesting and curious highlights include: an original Ernest Shepherd drawing of Winnie the Pooh; a 4.5 billion year old piece of Campo del Cielo Meteorite; a wine cistern weighing 1200 troy ounces; Claude Monet's "Eglise de Varengeville, effet Matinel"; and a Silver Toilet service made for the Duchess of Norfolk in 1708 by Benjamin Pyne of London.

With the purpose of showing to the public the breadth of objects on offer to them and the depth of expertise available through their dealers, the Country Life - LAPADA Object of the Year will be on display to the public, on stand E05.
A judging panel of 7 eminent experts, chaired by Huon Mallalieu of Country Life, will award three prizes and a further three prizes will be awarded through the People's Vote.
The winners will be announced at the fair on Tuesday 12 June.

TEFAF Maastricht 2012

Since its beginning as The Pictura Fine Art Fair in 1975, TEFAF Maastricht has consistently earned its reputation and is nowadays considered the most prestigious antiques art fair in the world.

The 2012 edition will bring to its visitors genuine masterpieces spanning through several milenia, offered by more than 260 of the world's most prestigious art and antiques dealers from 18 countries.

Over 170 international experts in every field of art represented at the Fair, verify each and every object for quality, authenticity and condition, making TEFAF an opportunity for directors and curators of major museums, as well as for private collectors to acquire some of the finest pieces still in private hands.

TEFAF Maastricht 2012 will be divided in 9 sections: Paintings, Antiques, Modern, Manuscripts, Classical Antiquities, Haute Joaillerie, Design, Paper and Showcase, this last giving the opportunity to recently established galleries to participate in TEFAF Maastricht for one year and to gain experience of being part of an international fine art event.

On Friday morning of March 16, an Art Symposium will be held at the MECC Maastricht, Forum 100, where developments in the art market over the last 25 years will be discussed, as well as a look at its future.
A panel discussion about collecting for love or money, considerations on emotional value and art investment, and financial risks and rewards of investments in art, will also be covered in the symposium.

In 2012, TEFAF Maastricht arts and antiques fair celebrates its 25th anniversary.
A new entrance hall designed specially for the Fair's Silver Jubilee containing a stunning light installation will welcome its visitors and a series of initiatives are taking place during this year.
A special Silver Jubilee book is being produced for TEFAF 2012. This will include interviews with museum curators and private collectors who have bought works at the Fair, some of whom have never spoken publicly before, a history of TEFAF, a look behind the scenes of the Fair and great works of art sold at TEFAF.

BRAFA’12 - Brussels Antiques & Fine Arts Fair

From 21 to 29 January 2012, it will take place at Tour & Taxis, located in the heart of Brussels, the 57th Brussels Antiques & Fine Arts Fair, BRAFA’12.

With the first edition in 1955 held in the Arlequin Hall of the Galerij Louiza, under the name of “Belgian Antiques Fair” or “Foire des Antiquaires de Belgique”, renamed BRAFA or Brussels Antiques & Fine Arts Fair in 2007, it's one of the oldest longest running fairs in the world.

Across 9 days, the public will access a fine selection of art presented by 122 exhibitors from 11 countries in over 14,000 square metres of exhibition area, showing objects and antiques such as oil paintings (including Old Masters), engravings, watercolours, gouaches, primitive art, earthenware, porcelain, ceramics, antique frames, 18th century furniture, religious icons and antique wallpaper.

This year's guest of honour will be the King Baudouin Foundation Heritage Fund, which will be celebrating its 25th anniversary in fitting style with an exceptional exhibition of a few key works from its collection of around 7,000.

Entrusted once again to Volume Architecture, the decoration will include Byzantine patterns on the carpets, inspired by the pavements of Amiens Cathedral, contrasting with origami, giant birds and kites suspended from the roof, creating an eye-catching effect on both floor and ceiling.

BRAFA’12 can be visited from 21 to 29 January 2012 (11-7 pm), with late night opening on the 24 the 26 until 10 pm.

IX Antiques Biennial at the Cordoaria Nacional

Organized by the Associação Portuguesa dos Antiquários (Portuguese Antique Dealers' Association), the IX Antiques Biennial will take place in the Cordoaria Nacional building from April 8 through April 17, 2011 (mon-fri 18h-24h00, sat-sun 16h00-24h00, last day 16h00-21h00).

The Cordoaria Nacional is located at Avenida da Índia - Rua da Junqueira, 342 in Lisbon (N 38º 41' 51,52'' , W 9º 11' 24,58'').

TEFAF Maastricht 2011

Considered the world's leading art and antiques fair, TEFAF Maastricht 2011 will offer to its visitors some of the best available fine art, antiques, jewelery, manuscripts and other ancient pieces reflecting 6,000 years of excellence in the applied arts, brought by 260 of the world’s most prestigious art and antiques dealers from 16 countries.

From the paintings of old masters like Bruegel to more recent artists, visitors and collectors will the opportunity to experience in sight the European, Chinese and Japanese porcelain, ethnographic and pre-Columbian art, medieval to modern sculpture, furniture from the 16th century to the 19th century, lavishly decorated documents such as illuminated manuscripts, Egyptian mummy masks, Greek marble statues, Roman coins, precious gems, and vintage watches.
A Modern section will showcase the art from the 20th and 21st centuries which includes works from famous artists including Renoir, Picasso, Poliakoff, Kandinsky, Henry Moore, Rothko, Willem de Kooning, Anish Kapoor, Francis Bacon and Damien Hirst.

Introduced in 2009, the Design section seeks to highlight the twentieth-century design and applied arts from the leading international specialists.

TEFAF Paper was first brought to public in 2010, showing drawings and limited edition prints ranging from Old Masters to contemporary works, antiquarian books and manuscripts, Japanese prints, photography, wallpaper and other works.

A Showcase section, introduced in 2008, offers recently established galleries and dealers the opportunity to participate in the Fair on a strictly one-off basis.

Visitors to the TEFAF (The European Fine Art Fair) are invited to buy with confidence, every item on view at the fair has been subject to rigorous checks carried out by 29 specialist vetting committees, made up of near 175 internationally respected experts, as to its quality, condition and authenticity. TEFAF Maastricht was also the first to introduce The Art Loss Register at the fair in 2000.

TEFAF Maastricht 2011 can be visited between the 18th and the 27th of March 2011, at the MECC (Maastricht Exhibition & Congress Centre).
Cameras, umbrellas, large bags and backpacks are not allowed, and don't carry art or antiques for valuation.

American International Fine Art Fair 2011

Until February 13th, takes place in the Palm Beach County Convention Center, Florida, the 15th American International Fine Art Fair (AIFAF), where near 50 international exhibitors will show works of fine art, from classical antiquity to contemporay, as well as some of the world's finest jewelry and antiques, namely from specific periods.

Among the presented works is Pablo Picasso’s "Buste d’homme a la pipe", a self portrait of Picasso portrayed as a spirited musketeer dated January 28th, 1969, brought by Richard Green Fine Art.

A multi-color 46.52 carat diamond peacock brooch set in platinum and a 59.45 carat multi-shape diamond necklace with a 30.94 carat light pink briolette diamond drop, courtesy of Graff Diamonds, are sure to shine during the event and receive most attention from the feminin attendees.

The oil on canvas "After the Game"completed by Zonaro in 1887 and a bronze sculpture, "Sir Winston Churchill", created by Sir Jacob Epstein in 1946, are represented by MacConnal-Mason.

These are only a small sample of the fine art and jewelry that visitors to the AIFAF 2011 can appreciate.

One of the fair's highlights is a major Renoir exhibition in collaboration with Hammer Galleries, which includes approximately 20 pieces from Renoir’s later works dating between 1885 and 1912.

A partnership with Corfield Morris offers art advisory services to its visitors, as well as the possibility to be orientated throughout the fair or straight to whatever they seek.

Another partner of the 15th American International Fine Art Fair is the Norton Museum of Art, holding its 70th Anniversary celebration. Complimentary admission will be available to all events on February 8th, with shuttle buses running between the Palm Beach County Convention Center and the Norton Museum of Art on that day.

Following last year's successful format, the AIFAF provides daily activities to its visitors, including informative lectures presented by museum curators and art experts, cocktail parties and other social events.

The American International Fine Art Fair is organized by David and Lee Ann Lester, owners of International Fine Art Expositions (IFAE).

BRAFA 2011 - Brussels Antiques & Fine Arts Fair

Inspired by the examples of the Grosvenor House in London and the Prinsenhof in Delft, and organinzed by the Belgian Antiques Fair not-for-profit association, the first BRAFA (Brussels Antiques & Fine Arts Fair) edition took place in 1955 in the Arlequin Hall of the Galerij Louiza.
This initiative to set up a “salon van antiquairs” was taken by Charles Van Hove, for many years the President, and Ms Mamy Wouters, Vice-President, of the Belgian Royal Chamber of Antiques Dealers.

Reserved until 1994 to Belgian antique dealers who were members of the Royal Chamber of Antiques Dealers, the fair was a national event that had been held at the "Palais des Beaux-Arts" in Brussels between 1967 and 2003, with the number of participants ranging between forty and fifty.
However its continuous success and expansion of art objects continued to arise the interest of antique dealers from abroad, leading the at the time President Christian de Bruyn to open the fair to foreign antique dealers for the first time in 1995.

The "Palais des Beaux-Arts" no longer suficed to hold the event and in 2004 the Belgium Antiques Fair moved to the Tour & Taxis industrial site in the Noordwijk district of Brussels alongside the Willebroek canal.
This change permited to increase the number of participants to near 120, a steep improvement from the original 20 participants at the outset and a statement of BRAFA's importance at an international level.

Over the years the fair has also embraced modern and contemporary art, preparing itself for the 21st century. Because the name “Belgian Antiques Fair” or “Foire des Antiquaires de Belgique” no longer reflected this development, in 2007 the fair was renamed BRAFA or Brussels Antiques & Fine Arts Fair.
The Belgian Antiques Fair not-for-profit association was placed under the High Protection of Her Majesty the Queen on 30 September 2009.

The fair will include antiquities, oceanic art, African art, Oriental art, silver, antique jewellery, furniture and works of art from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, curiosities, ceramics, earthenware and porcelain, drawings, engravings, old masters, modern painting, sculpture, carpets, tapestry, antique and modern books, numismatic, contemporary painting and sculpture, photography.

Counting with the presence of 130 dealers, the BRAFA's 56th edition is expected to receive around 38,000 visitors.

Held in the Tour & Taxis in the heart of Brussels, the fair will run from 21 to 30 January 2011 (11am to 7pm). Late night opening on Tuesday 25 and Thursday 27 January 2011 until 10.30 pm.
Guided tours: daily at 3 pm.

The Museum Mayer van den Bergh will be this year's guest of honour and will exhibit twenty works of art that will include The Adoration of the Shepherds by Jacob Jordaens, an antiquities-styled Maria-Magdalena by Jan Gossaert, and the life-size portraits of the Vekemans family painted by Cornelis de Vos.
