Renoir - Tradition and Innovation - Osaka 2010

After the exhibition period at The National Art Center (Tokyo), approximately 80 works from the french impressionist Pierre-Auguste Renoir, will be for viewing between the 17th of April and the 27th of June, 2010 at the National Museum of Art (Osaka).
With works courteously loanned from several collections from inside and outside of Japan, such as from the Musée d'Orsay (Paris), Museum of Fine Arts (Boston), The National Gallery of Art (Washington) and The Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute (Massachusetts), the Renoir - Tradition and Innovation exhibition observes the progress of the artist from the outset of his career to his recognition as a portraitist, including his innovative experiments in art.
Advanced optical technology was used to carry out studies upon Renoir's technique, with the results being presented alongside the paintings.
Organized by The National Museum of Art (Osaka), The Yomiuri Shimbun and the Yomiuri Telecasting Corporation, the exhibition had the special assistance of the Pola Museum of Art, Pola Art Foundation and was made possible with the generous contribution of sponsors.
